Why Am I A Lion? - Finland Phenom - Linkery Restaurant

Meeting on 9/14/11

A NEW ATTENDANCE RECORD WAS SET TODAY WHEN TWENTY FOUR (24) NORTH PARK LIONS PROUDLY GAVE A RESOUNDING RENDITION OF "IT'S A GRAND OLD FLAG".

MANY WERE CAUGHT OFF GUARD TODAY, WHEN OUR "MYSTERY GREETER" WAS ONE OF OUR NEWEST LIONS, KAREN LENYOUN. SO, ON TO THE FUN PART OF THE MEETING. LION DR. JIM KNOTT BROUGHT US UP TO DATE ON HIS SPORTING (? ) ADVENTURES, TOO NUMEROUS TO GO INTO, FOLLOWED BY SOME WILD AND SOMEWHAT WEIRD DISSERTATIONS FROM SOME OF THE OTHER LIONS.

STARTING THIS WEEK, WE HAVE A NEW ITEM TO OUR MEETINGS. ASKING A LION EACH WEEK TO ANSWER "WHY AM I A LION?" THIS WEEK, LION HAL THOMAS GAVE US HIS REASONS.  Feel free to comment below and tell us why you're a Lion.

UPDATE FROM FINLAND. LION KIM GAVE US SOME BRAGGING ON HER SOCCER CHAMP DAUGHTER, PASSING AROUND CLIPS OF A FINLAND PAPER WITH HER DAUGHTER'S PHOTO PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED. WAY TO GO, KIM!!!

LION STEVE READ A LETTER OF APPRECIATION FROM BOY SCOUT TROOP 53, THANKING US FOR OUR GENEROUS DONATION OF $300, WHICH IS BEING USED TO REPAIR BROKEN GEAR, USED ON THEIR CAMPING TRIPS.

FARM TO TABLE ?? OUR PROGRAM SPEAKER TODAY WAS MR JAY PORTER, OWNER OF THE LINKERY RESTAURANT AT 30TH & NORTH PARK WAY. JAY PRESENTED A VERY INTERESTING PROGRAM CONCERNING HIS PASSION ABOUT THIS UNIQUE "FARM TO TABLE" CONCEPT AND HIS INVOLVEMENT WITH LOCAL SAN DIEGO FARM & GROWERS TO PROVIDE FRESH FOOD FOR THE RESTAURANT. THE LINKERY HAS SEVERAL SPECIALITIES: HOUSE-MADE SAUSAGES, HOUSE-CRAFTED MUSTARD AND HOUSE-CURED BACON & HAM, WHICH THEY SELL TO GO BY THE POUND. ANOTHER GREAT PROGRAM - SORRY IF YOU MISSED IT.

NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM: MIKE OSOFF, PROJECT DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS, YMCA YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES.
